Cellulite is not scary

What is cellulite?

“Know your enemy and you can defeat him”, taught the Art of War, the oldest military treatise in history.

A teaching that still applies today – even when it comes to fighting cellulite. From a medical point of view, cellulite is a real pathology caused by inflammation of the hypodermis. This alteration manifests itself with water retention, which causes an accumulation of localized adiposity in critical areas and stagnation of liquids. The causes can be very different because cellulite manifests itself differently from person to person.

  • Genetic predisposition;
  • Sedentary lifestyle;
  • Hormonal disorders (estrogen);
  • Salt;
  • Overweight (cellulite also affects thin women, but excess pounds accentuate the “orange peel”);
  • Smoke.

If you’ve reached this point, you certainly don’t belong to 10% of women who aren’t interested in the topic of cellulite. Welcome to the club! 4 stages are usually distinguished (based on the severity of the phenomenon), and it’s quite easy and immediate to identify them.

The 4 stages of cellulite

Congestive stage
You’re a newbie. You’ve noticed the presence of cellulite for a few months, and the first signs of orange peel, but only if you compress the skin.

Characteristics:

  • Cellulite venosa e linfatica con ipo-ossigenazione;
  • Drenaggio dei liquidi interstiziali alterato;
  • Aumento di cellule del grasso (adipociti).

Exudative or infiltrative stage

You and cellulite are getting acquainted. The marks on the skin are larger and more evident. We can now speak of “mattress skin” rather than orange peel. These marks are visible even if you don’t squeeze your legs. The skin in the area appears thin and brittle, and if you touch it it seems cooler.

Characteristics:

  • Dehydrated skin;
  • Restricted liquid stagnation;
  • Subcutaneous edema

Organizational or fibrous stage

You are a cellulite expert. The skin is less and less elastic and homogeneous. The orange peel is very visible and deep. You can feel the presence of small subcutaneous nodules.

Characteristics:

  • Deep cellulite up to the basal state of the dermis;
  • Subcutaneous nodules;
  • Painful area.

Fibrotic or scarring stage

The skin is more and more hardened. Touching the area, you’ll feel that it’s colder and more irregular, and that the small nodules have become larger. Cellulite has been affecting you for some time, but the choice not to intervene up to this point could be risky. This stage of cellulite could present irreversible symptoms or cause evident scars.

Caratteristiche:

  • Completely hardened skin;
  • Deep dehydration;
  • Very evident nodules.

Is it possible to prevent cellulite?

The answer is yes, but also no. Surely if you adopt good daily habits, you’ll be able to prevent or at least slow down the appearance of cellulite and help reduce its aesthetic manifestations.

To counteract water retention and the accumulation of localized fat, it’s essential to drink lots of water (at least two liters a day). If you can’t drink a lot of water, you can also alternate it with draining and diuretic teas.

Always include berries such as blackberries, blueberries and raspberries into your diet: they are rich in bioflavonoids and help blood microcirculation.

What to give up? Coffee, alcohol and fatty foods with a lot of salt that favor the stagnation of liquids and waste.

Cellulite also persists with an overly sedentary life. A daily 30-minute walk is enough to help you activate your microcirculation. Swimming, water aerobics and hydrobike are perfect to combat it: in addition to helping you burn fat, the movement in the water massages your legs and buttocks, reactivating the lymphatic and circulatory system.

Cosmetic creams, healthy eating, lots of water and a little movement are essential, but are often not enough to clearly reduce the “orange peel”.

How to get out of the cellulite club

Eliminating cellulite is possible as long as you are constant and motivated, and only contact qualified professionals who can guarantee the results you desire.

Mesotherapy is one of the most popular treatments for water retention and cellulite reduction. The goal of mesotherapy is to detoxify the body from waste and eliminate excess fluids. The treatment is done by administering pharmaceuticals or homeopathic substances with a fine needle that can act on stagnant liquids present in the skin and subcutaneous tissues.

At SOTHERGA, mesotherapy is completely painless because we only use the innovative U225 system, a high-precision automatic gun that allows us to reach the desired depth with the perfect dose of product to treat it.

Radiofrequency is another very valid method for eliminating cellulite from the legs. This treatment exploits the electro-thermal effects to eliminate fatty deposits and stagnation of liquids. At SOTHERGA, we use the best radio frequencies on the market including ENDYMED and ALMA.

Session after session, the radiofrequency gives the skin tone and elasticity again, stimulating the production of new collagen.

Cellfina is another minimally invasive technique to combat cellulite. It’s currently the first and only FDA approved medical protocol for the long-term improvement of the aesthetic appearance of cellulite (after 5 years, the results are maintained in 93% of cases!). Cellfina severs the fibrous septae that cause holes to appear on the skin and therefore manages to hide the “orange peel” effect. After a Cellfina treatment, you’ll notice the appearance of bruises on the treated area. You’ll be able to resume your life and all activities immediately, except sports and sun exposure (usually 4 or 5 days are enough!).
