Russian Lips

A new lip trend and one of the most popular fashions in contemporary aesthetic medicine. But does it really make sense to choose a lip model like you would choose a pair of shoes?

What are Russian Lips?
They are commonly called Russian Lips and are the lips inspired by those of the Matryoshkas, the famous Russian dolls with their typical full, red, heart-shaped lips. Today, Russian Lips are very popular and have literally replaced the outdated Duck Lips.
To get an idea of how popular they are today, just take a look at Instagram and Tik Tok. Lots of girls and even influencers and celebrities are showing off these lips, telling us exactly how much hyaluronic acid was used and how many sessions were needed to achieve such a result.
How to get Russian Lips
In order to achieve a round, full and plump mouth, it is necessary to perform a volumetric lip augmentation. In the case of Russian Lips, a specific vertical injection technique is used (instead of the horizontal one, which only generates a fullness effect). This produces the effect of opening and “tipping” the lip. To achieve Russian Lips, the filler is not distributed evenly, but the tiny syringe injections are concentrated in the centre of the mouth to create the coveted ‘heart’ look. Usually very few holes are made: the aim is precisely to raise the Cupid’s bow, giving harmony and a new shape to the mouth. This technique is now very much in demand, also in the wake of the many models and celebrities who have chosen it. But does it really make sense to choose your own lip model? What is behind this trend of wanting to look like a famous face?
The concept of improvement at SOTHERGA
At SOTHERGA, even and especially in the face of these current trends, we remain true to our philosophy and our canon of authentic and natural beauty. For us, it is good to improve, but it is impossible to do so unless we truly respect our uniqueness. This is why we believe it is essential that the starting point is never an ideal or a famous face. The starting point is always the patient’s face: the aesthetic doctor’s aim is to carefully analyse the face in order to understand how to enhance it, not by simply making it the same as all the others but by emphasising its features and its uniqueness.
